STRINGS PROGRAM
CHAMBER & CONCERT ORCHESTRAS
Orchestra (Grades 4 and 5)
String students in the 4th and 5th grades will join the orchestra program at Avoca West. We currently have two ensembles, the Chamber Orchestra and and Concert Strings Orchestra. They both rehearse one day a week before school. In addition, orchestra students will receive one sectional per week that usually takes place during a PE or specials class. Most orchestra students have been playing their instrument for multiple years, having successfully completed the Suzuki portion of our strings program at Avoca West.

Concert Strings Orchestra

The Concert Strings Orchestra primarily consists of 4th and 5th grade students who are ready for the orchestral experience. We combine violins, violas, cellos and bass in one ensemble to work on scales and other orchestral repertoire. Students will also work on technique through the Essential Elements book 2. In addition to a stringed instrument in good working order, all orchestra students must purchase a Korg Tuner and Essential Elements book.​

Chamber Orchestra
The chamber orchestra is primarily 4th and 5th grade students who are very proficient readers and have developed solid technique. Students will play 2 and 3 octave scales and work on both shifting and vibrato. We will play lots of repertoire and make beautiful music together.
